My girls love to play. This is no surprise, as most children do, but a pleasant surprise for me was how much they love to play together. At almost 3.5 and just over 1.5 it's rarely without incident, but I try to encourage their play as much as I can. By virtue of having an older sister, little Rowan has already learned to how to sit and play for quite a long time - I actually joke that she's so focused because she's learned that if she puts a toy down it may be claimed by her sister before Read more [...]
We have a lot of apples in our house after our apple picking excursion so when my good friend Joleen sent me a recipe for apple loaf I made it as soon as I could! She's never sent me a recipe that wasn't a winner and this is no different. The top of the loaf tastes like it has a streusel and it's excellent with coffee, tea or warm apple cider.

2 tsp cinnamon
1 tsp baking soda
1/2 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp salt
1/2 cup vegetable oil

My girls are so excited for Halloween this year; every morning Ashlyn asks if she gets to go trick or treating today! Clearly creating anticipation for Halloween isn't a problem around here. We've been watching “The Cat in the Hat Knows a Lot About That – Tricks and Treats" and “WordWorld – A Kooky, Spooky Halloween" since last October so I was very happy to be able to introduce the girls to a brand new Halloween movie from NCircle, “Sid the Science Kid – Sid’s Spooky Halloween".

We finally got to Mountain Apple Orchards to pick some apples on the weekend and I'm so glad that we did! The girls had a blast picking - and eating - apples right from the tree, and we scored some delicious apple cider, apple donuts and a tart cherry and apple jelly that I'm planning to use on a baked brie soon. Next year we'll be sure to go over the Labour Day weekend to get the honeycrisps!
