It's so easy for kids to get caught up in the 'getting' part of the holiday season. I remember talking with my mommy friends last year after Christmas and we were all lamenting how our 2.5 year olds had suddenly developed the "gimmies" after spending a few weeks celebrating with various family members and friends, and I have a feeling that this year is going to be even worse since I've been hearing "I want that for Christmas" about every toy we see in a store/flyer/commercial for weeks now Read more [...]

True confession: I avoid shopping at malls with my girls whenever possible. Groceries? Bring it on. Big box store? No fear. Besides, Ashlyn is old enough now that I can't buy her presents in front of her anyways because she remembers everything, so I'll be doing a lot of online shopping this year. Enter Red Envelope!

At almost 3.5 and just over 1.5 it's rarely without incident, but I try to encourage their play as much as I can. By virtue of having an older sister, little Rowan has already learned to how to sit and play for quite a long time - I actually joke that she's so focused because she's learned that if she puts a toy down it may be claimed by her sister before Read more [...]
