As I mentioned in my backyard overhaul post, what started as just changing up the kids backyard toys has evolved into a complete backyard makeover! We finally chose and purchased our patio furniture so I think it's safe to say that the backyard is done...except for the barbecue, but that will have to wait until next year. Here it is, in as close to a panoramic shot as I could manage!

Over the winter, my husband and I discussed what we wanted to do with our backyard this year. I knew that I wanted to update the house and play area with toys that were meant for kids, not toddlers, and I convinced him that it would be fairly inexpensive because we could sell the old toys and use that money towards the new stuff. No big deal, right? Turns out, updating the backyard is just like updating a room inside: you think that it will just be a coat of paint and it turns into a huge project!

Is there anything more Canadian feeling than watching your kids play hockey? I'm not big on having duplicates of toys in our house. Since my daughters are just under 2 years apart in age, they have a lot of the same interests and aren't that far apart in height or weight. Most of the time, they share...or more accurately, they fight a bit, whine and cry, and I make the decision about who's turn it is or if the item should be taken away until they're ready to share.
