What’s for breakfast – “Starbucks” Pumpkin Scones

I originally posted this recipe in September 2012 and I've been making it regularly ever since! To save some time in the morning, I made the dough last night and baked the scones this morning and they were the best I've ever had, so I've updated the recipe to include this step. The two glazes are an extra special treat; usually, I just make the spiced glaze and that's more than enough sweetness. Enjoy! If you've been reading this blog for a while, you are probably aware of my addiction enjoyment Read more [...]

Learning to read the high-tech way with LeapReader

I will be the first to admit that while our house is full of books and bookworms who love them, I do not have a clue about how to teach my children to actually read on their own. Some of the things that we're doing to encourage literacy: read to the girls daily, point out letters/words/numbers on signs or in flyers (this is actually how I discovered that Rowan can identify numbers, she started pointing them out on price signs one day), visit the library so they can pick out their own books, have Read more [...]

How to sharpen your disposable razor using an old pair of jeans

I had never heard of 'stropping' (the proper term for sharpening something) until a few weeks ago when I read online that you can actually sharpen disposable razor blades at home, easily, using an old pair of jeans. I was skeptical but I figured it was worth a shot, because those razor blades are getting expensive and they don't seem to last nearly as long as I think they should! I cut somewhere around 2-3 inches off the leg of an old pair of jeans. Hold it so the seams are at the sides. Then Read more [...]

Enjoy a tea break with Libre Tea (#giveaway)

My favourite part of fall is that it feels like 'tea season' to me. I worked with Libre Tea in 2011 and I had been enjoying their original tea glass until I accidentally sent it through the dishwasher and ruined the seal (here's a tip: watch their how to use your Libre tea glass video). Luckily for me, Libre Tea has a new line of tea glasses out and I was sent a Starburst Tea Glass to try out! For the record, the tea above was an herbal loose-leaf that is supposed to be that colour. I have Read more [...]

Get All-Day Organized with Thirty-One Gifts (#giveaway)

Now that my diaper bag days have come to an end, I have come to realize that there is no such thing as ONE perfect purse or bag for everything. There is the perfect clutch for a quick run to the grocery store where I'm just bringing keys and my wallet (check), a perfect cross-body bag for a morning at the museum that involves bringing some snacks and maybe a small camera (check), but what I was missing was a bag that was large enough to take to my classes at night but wasn't so big that I over-pack Read more [...]
