At 1.5 years old, Ashlyn didn't have the anticipation of Christmas, but she sure enjoyed every minute of it! We had our first Christmas in 6 years where we could spend time with family and we had a wonderful holiday season. Next year will be even more fun, with a second baby and a child will really "get it". I can't wait!

I think this used to be called a "wifesaver" back in the day. I originally got the recipe from Kraft Canada but it looks like they've changed it since I found it a few years ago. I've made a few modifications based on our favourite foods, but you can use whatever veggies and meat you want. It's a tradition on Christmas morning in our household - I love it because I put it together the night before, then throw it in the oven in the morning and it bakes up while we open presents.

Snickerdoodles are my brothers favourite Christmas cookies, so I've been baking them for him for years. They're also great for mailing and for cookie exchanges because one recipe makes a TON! I can't wait until Ashlyn is old enough to help, I think she'll really enjoy rolling the cookies in the cinnamon sugar mixture.

I've made these shortbread cookies for years. It's another recipe from my Aunt Jina and they are by far the best shortbread cookies I've ever made. They were my grandpa's favourite and I'd send them to him every year at Christmas.
You can make the dough a day or two ahead and keep it in the fridge until you're ready to bake it, or make it way in advance and freeze the dough. These also freeze beautifully, so they tend to get made in November and then are taken out closer to Christmas.
