Delicious Slow Cooker Pulled Pork

I posted on my personal Facebook page a few weeks ago that my house smelled amazing thanks to the pulled pork that I had in my slow cooker and after some friends asked for the recipe, I said that I’d blog it. It’s one of those recipes that was photocopied from a photocopy and is stained and a little crumpled from all of the use that it gets so I had to do a bit of searching to figure out where it came from. Turns out it was included in a book called “The 150 Best Slow Cooker Recipes” by Judith Finlayson. Two Read more […]

What’s for breakfast – Apple Loaf

We have a lot of apples in our house after our apple picking excursion so when my good friend Joleen sent me a recipe for apple loaf I made it as soon as I could!  She’s never sent me a recipe that wasn’t a winner and this is no different.  The top of the loaf tastes like it has a streusel and it’s excellent with coffee, tea or warm apple cider. APPLE LOAF Ingredients 3 cups flour 2 tsp cinnamon 1 tsp baking soda 1/2 tsp baking powder 1/2 tsp salt 1/2 cup vegetable oil 2 Read more […]

What’s for breakfast – Healthy Pumpkin Muffins

A friend gave me this recipe and it’s great at breakfast or as a snack.  I added some chocolate chips which probably decreases the health factor but they are so good that I think it’s worth it!  The recipe makes 12 regular muffins. PUMPKIN MUFFINS Ingredients 1 1/4 cups whole wheat flour 1 large egg 2 tbsp unsalted butter 1 cup packed brown sugar 1.25 tsp baking soda 1 tsp ground cinnamon 1/2 tsp nutmeg 1 cup pure pumpkin (NOT pumpkin pie filling) 1/2 cup buttermilk Read more […]

What’s for Dessert: Cherry and Peach Galette

I was flipping through the latest Food Network Magazine when I was visiting my parents the other week and I came upon the cherry and peach galette recipe.  Last week I had peaches and cherries that were not going to be eaten quickly enough – it’s so hard to resist when everything is in season and looks so good! – so I decided to give it a shot. I only had 1 sheet of puff pastry in my freezer, so that’s what I used, and I accidentaly used only one peach, but it was still delicious and I’ll make Read more […]

What’s for dessert: Rainbow velvet cake

When I came across this leprechaun trap cake on Pinterest I knew it was something I had to try!  Everything that I read online said that using a boxed white cake mix was the way to go but I had this crazy idea to use a red velvet cupcake recipe from an episode of Throwdown with Bobby Flay and it was a hit. I separated the batter into 6 bowls of decreasing amounts.  The largest bowl was dyed red using gel food colouring, the next orange, and so on.  Because of the cocoa powder in the recipe Read more […]
