Making a princess cake for a princess’s 4th birthday

To the surprise of no one, Ashlyn chose a ‘princess’ theme for her birthday party last weekend. In order to make a princess cake, I decided on a rainbow velvet cake baked in a bundt pan and one of those creepy half-doll things you can find at craft or bulk stores. I started by making the cake, using more food colouring gel this time to make the colour more vibrant: Next came the fun part: decorating it! I placed a regular sized cupcake inside the middle of the bundt cake, then a giant cupcake Read more […]

What’s for Dessert: Cherry and Peach Galette

I was flipping through the latest Food Network Magazine when I was visiting my parents the other week and I came upon the cherry and peach galette recipe.  Last week I had peaches and cherries that were not going to be eaten quickly enough – it’s so hard to resist when everything is in season and looks so good! – so I decided to give it a shot. I only had 1 sheet of puff pastry in my freezer, so that’s what I used, and I accidentaly used only one peach, but it was still delicious and I’ll make Read more […]

What’s for dessert: Rainbow velvet cake

When I came across this leprechaun trap cake on Pinterest I knew it was something I had to try!  Everything that I read online said that using a boxed white cake mix was the way to go but I had this crazy idea to use a red velvet cupcake recipe from an episode of Throwdown with Bobby Flay and it was a hit. What’s for dessert – Carrot Cake

My husband, in the 9 years that we have been together, has only ever asked for 2 kinds of birthday cake: black forest and carrot.  I was on the hunt for the perfect carrot cake recipe and my good friend Joleen gave it to me.  It’s now my go-to cake for the girls’ birthdays as well.  It’s always delicious and I’ve never had a complaint about it…or any plates returned that weren’t licked clean.  Of course, I’ll include the cream cheese icing recipe as well! Christmas cookies – Gingerbread men

I’m having so much fun this year, getting ready for Christmas with my little elf (Ashlyn) by my side!  She’s really into all of the preparations this year, and she loves to bake, so I thought it would be a lot of fun to have a few of her friends over for a cookie-decorating play date last week. Once I realized that I had invited a total of SIX 2-2.5 year olds, plus their five siblings ranging from newborn to 11 months old (and mommies, of course!), I thought it was the craziest idea I’d ever Read more […]
