The last weekend in May

Can you believe it’s already June? This past weekend we had my oldest daughter’s school fair on Saturday morning and the weather was hot and sunny. The girls got to play games, climb out of a trailer during a demonstration by a local fire department, and of course play at the play ground! I can’t believe how strong they both are on the bars now. That afternoon it started pouring rain so I helped them get into their swimsuits to go out and play – until a giant boom of thunder convinced us all to go Read more […]

Summer fun ideas for kids in Ottawa

Summer is almost here! We have about a month left until summer break starts and I’m trying to come up with a nice balance of activities to keep us busy and having fun without getting stuck in the same sort of routine that we have the rest of the year. My goal is to try and do one ‘special’ activity each week, with lots of down time, play dates and backyard fun thrown in. I thought about splitting my list into ‘free’ and ‘pay’ activities, but it made more sense to me to divide them based on things Read more […]

Keeping Busy, Finding Balance

I’m almost glad for the rain today, because I can work at my computer and not feel bad that we’re inside instead of enjoying the spring weather! Like many of my fellow moms, I have a hard time figuring out how to balance all of ‘my’ stuff (blogging, college courses, exercise, hobbies), ‘kid’ stuff (dance and swimming lessons, storytime and school, play dates and outdoor time), ‘family’ stuff (special activities and outings, time together reading/playing/watching a movie), ‘couple’ stuff (spending Read more […]

Easter activities in Ottawa

This is the first Easter since we’ve lived in Ottawa that we’re staying home and not hosting any visitors, so I’ve been looking for fun ways to spend our time together as a family. Here is my list of what kid-friendly activities are happening April 3 through 6, 2015: The Canada Agriculture and Food Museum (aka “The Farm”) has lots going on! Easter egg hunts for the under 6 crowd, “Signs of Spring” hunt for the older kids, food demonstrations, and of course all of the animals! These activities Read more […]

How to throw an easy and inexpensive princess and tea party birthday

My sweet baby girl is turning FOUR this weekend! Since Rowan’s birthday party had to be cancelled last year we decided to make this year’s party all about her and her closest little friends, instead of having a larger gathering that included her friends’ older and younger siblings. I thought about what Rowan loves to do with her friends: play dress-up, play with her dolls, and do crafts. From that it was an easy leap to a ‘princess’ (or fancy) tea party that included dolls! We asked the guest to Read more […]
