New (school) year resolutions

I have a confession: I don’t get the whole “New Year’s Eve” hype. January 1 doesn’t feel any different to me than December 31 did; I don’t feel motivated to make changes or that I’m starting with a clean slate. September, though? September is my New Year. New season, new courses for me, new activities for the girls. New stationary at every turn; pens and highlighters and Post-It’s just begging to be bought at bargain prices. This is when I make plans to work more (ok, any) exercise into Read more […]

How using a Strider helped my 5 year old ride her bike without training wheels

Way back in 2011, I did a Strider PREbike review. Just look at how young Ashlyn was! She was about 2.5 when she started using her Strider and while she really enjoyed it, she was never one of those kids who zoomed around at top speed on them. Our Summer So Far

How is it August already? Before school ended in June, I was worried that we would be bored by August and I’d be out of ideas to entertain the three of us during the day, but that hasn’t been the case at all! BBQ smores for dessert, climbing in our updated backyard, as much time as possible spent at beaches/cottages/outside, lots of biking (Ashlyn has learned to ride her two-wheeler without training wheels!) and even a movie – we’re having a blast Read more […]

The backyard makeover is complete

As I mentioned in my backyard overhaul post, what started as just changing up the kids backyard toys has evolved into a complete backyard makeover! We finally chose and purchased our patio furniture so I think it’s safe to say that the backyard is done…except for the barbecue, but that will have to wait until next year. Here it is, in as close to a panoramic shot as I could manage! In case you’re wondering where things are from: the basketball net is Little Tikes and was a curbside Read more […]

How one little change led to a backyard overhaul

Over the winter, my husband and I discussed what we wanted to do with our backyard this year. I knew that I wanted to update the house and play area with toys that were meant for kids, not toddlers, and I convinced him that it would be fairly inexpensive because we could sell the old toys and use that money towards the new stuff. No big deal, right? Turns out, updating the backyard is just like updating a room inside: you think that it will just be a coat of paint and it turns into a huge  project! After Read more […]
