Summer fun ideas for kids in Ottawa

Summer is almost here! We have about a month left until summer break starts and I’m trying to come up with a nice balance of activities to keep us busy and having fun without getting stuck in the same sort of routine that we have the rest of the year. My goal is to try and do one ‘special’ activity each week, with lots of down time, play dates and backyard fun thrown in. I thought about splitting my list into ‘free’ and ‘pay’ activities, but it made more sense to me to divide them based on things Read more […]

Easter activities in Ottawa

This is the first Easter since we’ve lived in Ottawa that we’re staying home and not hosting any visitors, so I’ve been looking for fun ways to spend our time together as a family. Here is my list of what kid-friendly activities are happening April 3 through 6, 2015: The Canada Agriculture and Food Museum (aka “The Farm”) has lots going on! Easter egg hunts for the under 6 crowd, “Signs of Spring” hunt for the older kids, food demonstrations, and of course all of the animals! These activities Read more […]

How to throw an easy and inexpensive princess and tea party birthday

My sweet baby girl is turning FOUR this weekend! We asked the guest to Read more […]

Keep warm and read! Our latest preschooler/early reader favourites

It’s no secret that when the weather gets cold, I hibernate. Curling up on the couch with a good book is a favourite way for all of us to pass the time, and these are the books that my 5.5 year old and 3-almost-4 year old keep reaching for right now! “The Mischevians” by William Joyce is on sale for $5 at Indigo now (not an affiliate link, just an awesome deal)! This book is very silly, a little gross at times, and never fails to make the girls laugh. I think “The Mischevians” will be the Read more […]

My word for 2015 is ‘thoughtful’

I know I’ve said it before but I’m just not a New Year’s resolutions kind of girl. Now that we’re nearing the end of January, how many of you are still even thinking of your resolutions? I am on a few online forums and on one of them, a poster mentioned an idea from Christine Kane that really resonated with me: “Pick a word for the year. Just one word. That’s all. Then, hold that word in your mind throughout the year, and let your word guide you to take action.” I’ve decided on “thoughtful” Read more […]
