Cake #fail (or Ashlyn’s 2nd birthday)

I made Ashlyn’s turtle cake for her first birthday, so of course I wanted to make her second birthday cake this year.  She loves rubber duckies so I thought that would be a great cake to help us celebrate.  Using the same carrot cake recipe as last year, I used a small glass measuring cup for the duck’s head and a small loaf pan to make the body.  Once the cake had cooled I put it in the fridge overnight.  I made cream cheese icing, then put about 1/2 cup aside to use for the eyes and beak; Read more […]

Star Wars Cookies for Father’s Day

My husband is a wonderful dad, so I wanted to find him something special for Father’s Day. Lucky for me, a few weeks back Bakerella had a post about Star Wars cookie cutters and I knew I’d found the perfect gift! There’s also easy to follow Read more […]

My scrapbooking challenge

I used to be an avid scrapbooker, but I’ve barely touched my stash in over a year! I have (almost) everything that I need to do Ashlyn’s “first year” scrapbook but I lack the motivation to start it. My goal is going to be one page a week for the rest of the summer, starting this week. I do tend Read more […]

Crafty Stuff ~ Birthday cake

It was really important to me to make Ashlyn’s birthday cake. I love to bake, and I was thinking for months about what to make for her. She loves carrots, and I have an awesome carrot cake recipe, so that was a no-brainer. We did her room in a “sea” theme so I thought a turtle would be fun and not too difficult. I just wasn’t sure how it would translate from my head to reality.I made the cake the way I usually do, then poured most of the batter into a greased glass bowl. I figured the shell would Read more […]

Crafty stuff ~ DIY custom light

We were really happy to find a house when we were looking that was move-in ready. The only things we wanted to change was the paint colour in the master bedroom and our daughter’s room, and all of the lighting upstairs. Ugly lights make me crazy! We had brought a couple of chandeliers from our old house (with the permission of the new owner), and we found some perfectly good, inexpensive lighting for our hallway from Ikea but finding a nice overhead light fixture for our daughter’s room took us longer Read more […]
