2016 was my Year of Yoda, with his mantra of “Do. Or do not. There is no try.” being my focus for the year. This year, that doesn’t seem to fit my life as well. I’ve completed my library technician diploma and have started doing casual work for two school boards. I’ve become a running convert and am considering joining the Zombies, Run! Virtual 5K this spring for something fun to do (and no, I cannot believe I’m referring to running 5 kilometers as ‘fun’ either but here we are!). I still do quite a bit of volunteering between the school my daughters go to and my involvement with Sparks, and of course there is still this blog! Yoda was great to get me here, but now it’s time for a little Tim Gunn.
“Make it work” just feels right. It’s not just about making our schedule work, although that is a big part of it; it’s also taking a moment to step back and see if what is happening is actually working as a complete picture. To borrow more from Tim Gunn, is it a lot of look (too much going on)? Am I creating the mood that I’m going for? Should it (read: our life) be edited and simplified, or does it need something special? Use what you’ve got and make it work. Sounds like a solid mantra for my 2017!
