Tundra Books for the holidays (#giveaway)

Books are always one of my favourite gifts to give! My 7 year old is reading chapter books on her own all of a sudden, and my 5 year old is starting to read sight words and books with lots of repetition, but both still love being read to so it’s a very exciting time for our family of bookworms. Tundra Books sent me a little package featuring some of their hot books for the season and while I have two tucked away for under the tree, I know all three will get lots of reads and rereads!

Every year we add at least one holiday-themed book to our collection, and The Day Santa Stopped Believing in Harold has become an instant classic. It’s a funny take on the usual Christmas dilemma of a child not sure if they believe in Santa anymore; this time, Santa isn’t sure that Harold is a real kid! The illustrations are just gorgeous, and it’s a lot of fun to read out loud, which are two very important criteria when picking out a children’s book.

If I Had a Gryphon is illustrated by the same man who did “The Day Santa Stopped Believing in Harold”, which was a coincidence but explained why I love the illustrations so much! Sam is a little girl who has a normal pet hamster, but wishes for something more exciting. Told in rhyme, it’s another fun read-aloud book!

Graphic novels are huge right now, and for good reason. Remember, reading is reading, regardless of how the information is presented, and graphic novels can be very helpful for children who are new to reading on their own, or who aren’t strong readers yet, because all of the pictures help the child to figure out what is happening in the story. Narwhal: Unicorn of the Sea is part of a series of early graphic novels that features Narwhal, the happy-go-lucky narwhal, and Jelly, a no-nonsense jellyfish. Silly, full of imagination and a great message about friendship, I think both of my daughters will enjoy meeting Narwhal and Jelly!

I was sent books from Tundra Books to facilitate this post. All opinions are always my own!

We had the Gryphon one and a number of the other ones on that list from the library recently! My daughter was very taken with the Hawksley Workman “Almost a Full Moon” story.
