Summer Countdown

2016CottageViewAt this time next week, I’ll be walking my daughters to school. The big one is starting grade 2, the little one will be going into senior kindergarten, and I’ll be starting my final semester of my college diploma. It seems impossible that our summer is almost over already! There are so many things that we wanted to do but seem to have run out of time for: I’ve only taken the girls to the beach once this year, never did check out a different beach that has an ice cream boat, never bought ice cream from the ice cream truck (though trust me, we found many, many other sources!), didn’t do many family bike rides, I’ve hardly run at all this month, we still need to go mini-golfing…..but what memories we did make!

I think part of the reason that this summer flew by for me was because I was taking two courses and didn’t finish them until the beginning of August, so I’ve only been done for a few weeks. We did a lot of travelling, including to a cottage for a week (where I had a camera mishap), visits with relatives, baby shower for my sister-in-law and a trip to Prince Edward County for a little anniversary getaway while the girls got some special time with their grandparents, aunt and uncle; we’ve hosted and been hosted for play dates; we got a membership to a local campground with outdoor pool that we have visited regularly; we have done a good amount of kayaking and plan to keep going through September; we’ve been to the special dinosaur exhibit at the Museum of Nature; I turned 35 last week and we celebrated with a most decadent chocolate fudge cake.

You have no idea how hard it is to ignore this @ottolenghi chocolate fudge cake that my husband baked for my birthday today, as it sits on my counter taunting me with it’s delicious smell. I have a feeling that the leftovers will not last long in our house! ???? ???? ???? #ottawa #nofilter #yow #613 #birthday #birthdaycake #chocolate #fudge #yum #foodie #foodporn #dessert

It’s easy to focus on what we didn’t do, but when I think about what we did fit in, it makes my heart so happy! Soon we’ll be back into the fall routine of school, Sparks and activities and I’m going to miss these lazy but somehow jam-packed summer days. We still have a few more days to check off more fun activities from our summer bucket list!
