Making friendship a priority with a girls weekend!

2013GirlsWeekend
This picture was taken in the summer of 2014, when my oldest friends, Amy in 613 (though we usually just call her Amy), Amy and I had our first girls weekend. Actually, I suppose that’s not entirely true. We’ve been friends since ninth grade (and they’ve been besties since they were 4!), and we shared an apartment in university, so we’ve had our fair share of adventures together, but that was the first time since I had my daughters that we had all gone away somewhere together. We chose the gorgeous Prince Edward County to explore and had a blast eating, drinking, wandering and just hanging out.

When I moved back to Ottawa in 2010, we had started a tradition of dinners out 3 times a year to celebrate each of our birthdays, but sadly it was getting harder and harder to coordinate all of our schedules to do even that. Last January, remembering how much fun it was to go to PEC together, we decided to do a bit of a ‘staycation’ and we got a room at the Chateau Laurier in downtown Ottawa for a night so that we could spend more time together and no one would have to drive or cab home after dinner, and it went so well that we’re doing it again! This year, I’m so excited to be heading to the Fairmont Le Château Montebello in Quebec. I’ve never been before, but I have heard nothing but rave reviews.

I’m looking forward to maybe trying some snowshoeing before hitting the pool and hot tub, and logging some serious time in front of their legendary fireplace with my friends, a glass (or two) of wine and the Exploding Kittens card game that I’ve packed. The fact that I won’t be responsible for anyone but myself for 24 hours sounds pretty darn good right now!
