I have never been what anyone would classify as “sporty”, but I do try to stay active. I’m not a big fan of going to the gym or doing exercise DVDs (although I do them out of necessity). What I really enjoy are ways that I can be active, but also spend time with my family. Something like biking. Recently, after years of talking about it, we finally took the leap and bought two kayaks! We live about a 30 second drive from a conservation area that has a public boat launch dock, so when the end of season sales started we decided to jump in.
I will need to work hard on my strength over before next summer because right now I am not strong enough to carry my kayak alone – forget about trying to get it on or off the car!
There is something that is so calming about being on the water, and I love that it is both a family activity and a chance to have some one-on-one time with one of my daughters, since we each take one child with us. They’ve even started doing some paddling so in a year or so, they could be in their own boat.
