Marvel Universe Live! review

Last night was full of excitement as my family attended the opening performance of Marvel Universe Live! at the Canadian Tire Centre in Ottawa! While my husband has a good knowledge of the Marvel super hero universe, mine is limited to the most recent Avengers movies and our daughters are pretty new to the whole Marvel scene. We knew to expect a lot of action, stunts and special effects and we were not disappointed!

Both of my daughters were most excited to see Black Widow so they had to pose in front of her banner when they spotted it! They really enjoyed watching Black Widow ride her motorbike and fight the bad guys. Black Widow and Madame Hydra were Ashlyn’s favourites, while Rowan preferred Spiderman and Green Goblin when it was all over. I enjoyed Loki and Thor, and my husband said that Wolverine and Red Skull were his favourites. That’s only the tip of the iceburg considering that there are 25 named characters and dozens of henchmen featured!

We had great seats that were nice and close to all of the action. There was smoke, lasers, explosions, fire and even fireworks! There were some loud bangs that might scare younger kids, but everyone around us seemed more startled than frightened. I was really pleased that the language was very young-child-friendly; not that I was expecting swearing, but I don’t recall any excessive use of things like “stupid” or other terms that you don’t really want the young kids repeating. The story line was pretty easy for the girls to follow and keep track of and they couldn’t get enough of the fights and stunts!

It’s worth noting that the first act is only about 35 minutes long, then an intermission of about 20 minutes and the final act runs for about 1 hour. Once again, I really wish that there were more souvenirs under $20 and that the snacks and treats weren’t so expensive, but that seems to be par for the course these days.
