I may not remember what I had for breakfast, but I can remember the words to pretty much any top 20 pop song over the last three decades or so. My daughters have definitely inherited my love of music, and when you add in fairies and other magical creatures, Strange Magic was a pretty easy sell!
Strange Magic is a madcap fairy tale musical inspired by “A Midsummer Night’s Dream.” Popular songs from the past six decades help tell the tale of a colorful cast of goblins, elves, fairies and imps, and their hilarious misadventures sparked by the battle over a powerful potion.
My 4 year old didn’t find it too scary, and I didn’t find it inappropriate for her; while there was lots of talk of love and some kissing there is also a fairy (Marianne, the main character) who is strong and fights to save her sister. The songs were plentiful and well-sung and the animation was beautiful. It may not be a favourite but it was worth a watch!
Strange Magic is now available on DVD. Keep up with the latest home releases from Walt Disney Studios Canada by following @DisneyStudiosCA on Twitter or Walt Disney Studios Canada on Facebook.
