Last night, my husband and I had an almost unheard of mid-week date night when we went to the Ottawa screening of Disney’s “Tomorrowland”. To be honest, even after seeing the trailer and commercials, I still wasn’t quite sure what to expect. We left the girls at home with a babysitter, partially because the screening ended way past their bedtimes, and partially because we weren’t sure if the movie would be too old for them. I think that we made the right choice; I would highly recommend “Tomorrowland” for kids roughly aged 8 and up!
From Disney comes two-time Oscar® winner Brad Bird’s riveting, mystery adventure “Tomorrowland,” starring Academy Award® winner George Clooney. Bound by a shared destiny, former boy-genius Frank (Clooney), jaded by disillusionment, and Casey (Britt Robertson), a bright, optimistic teen bursting with scientific curiosity, embark on a danger-filled mission to unearth the secrets of an enigmatic place somewhere in time and space known only as “Tomorrowland.” What they must do there changes the world—and them— forever.
Visually stunning as “Tomorrowland” is, I will admit that our second row seats were a little closer than I would have liked. My brain could hardly process all of the incredible details and costumes! The acting was top-notch and “Tomorrowland” was so much funnier than I was expecting. There were many times that the audience burst into laughter, and just as many times when we jumped in surprise. The plot moved at a good pace and the two-hour run time seemed just right. The audience seemed to really enjoy themselves and the comments that I heard as we were leaving seemed overwhelmingly positive. “Tomorrowland” has a great message of hope and optimism that you should check out for yourself when it arrives in theatres on May 22!
