I’m almost glad for the rain today, because I can work at my computer and not feel bad that we’re inside instead of enjoying the spring weather! Like many of my fellow moms, I have a hard time figuring out how to balance all of ‘my’ stuff (blogging, college courses, exercise, hobbies), ‘kid’ stuff (dance and swimming lessons, storytime and school, play dates and outdoor time), ‘family’ stuff (special activities and outings, time together reading/playing/watching a movie), ‘couple’ stuff (spending time together and not distracted by kids or electronics) and general ‘life’ stuff (errands, cleaning, endless meals to plan, execute and clean up after) and while I wish I had some tips for the balance, I really don’t. I’m trying to give myself permission not to feel guilt for what is not getting done each day. I’m attempting to remain thoughtful about how I spend my time. And I’m doing my best to do a little of each of those categories each day. Here is a bit of what has been keeping me busy lately!
Family and Kid Stuff
School and Blogging
Most importantly, we’re spending a lot of time outside! Last year I wrote a post about how using a Strider helped my daughter to ride a two wheeler without training wheels and this year it was Rowan’s turn. That’s right, my just-turned-4 year old is confidently riding her bike without any training wheels! Both girls love to bike to the park whenever possible and after months of freezing cold weather I am happy to get out and enjoy some fresh air and sunshine myself.
That picture was taken about 2 years ago, but aside from the booster seat, things look pretty much the same these days! I just finished my winter courses, and I have a few weeks off until the spring semester starts, but I’m currently challenging a course so I’m still doing homework. I need to complete a website for this challenge, which should be easy since I’ve been blogging for 5 years now, but I have to create the code from the ground up so I’m using coding skills that I haven’t needed since high school. I’m hoping to have this done before my next course starts in May.
Exercise and Hobbies
I’m a huge exercise procrastinator, so I need something that is quick, easy and gets decent results. I’ve been using the Jillian Michaels Beginner Shred off and on (mostly off) for a couple of months now and I always feel better when I make the time to get a bit of exercise into my daily schedule. My husband is going to check out my bike for me so I can get out on that soon too. I’ll need it to keep up with the girls now!
I’m still crocheting too. Since I made Ashlyn a doll blanket after Christmas, I am slowly plugging away at a doll blanket for Rowan. I decided to make granny squares and it is taking me forever!
I still need to finish about half of the squares, then block them (i.e. get them wet and stretch them to a consistent size) and crochet them together. Then I have a scarf for my mom and a cowl of some sort for me on my list of projects! I’ve also been reading like crazy lately.
