It’s no secret that when the weather gets cold, I hibernate. Curling up on the couch with a good book is a favourite way for all of us to pass the time, and these are the books that my 5.5 year old and 3-almost-4 year old keep reaching for right now!
“The Mischevians” by William Joyce is on sale for $5 at Indigo now (not an affiliate link, just an awesome deal)! This book is very silly, a little gross at times, and never fails to make the girls laugh. I think “The Mischevians” will be the kind of book that stays interesting no matter how many times you’ve read it.
“The Book With No Pictures” by B.J. Novak. Unless you’ve been under a rock, you’ve probably heard about this book. B.J. Novak (from “The Office”) has somehow managed to write a book that is text only and that is hilarious and captivating for children, and fun for adults to read too. A great gift!
“No Jumping on the Bed” by Ted Arnold. At story time the other week, the children’s librarian read a Fly Guy book by Ted Arnold and Rowan loved it, so we checked out another one of his books. The illustrations are colourful and full of details, and the story is silly and fun to read.
The Junie B. Jones series by Barbara Park. It all started when we went to see “Junie B. in Jingle Bells, Batman Smells at Centrepointe Theatres back in December. As soon as we got home, I was on the Ottawa Public Library website looking for Junie B. and getting some requests in place. It’s not for every family, as Junie B. is not exactly a model child, but we find her hilarious and it gives us lots of chances to talk about appropriate behaviour and reactions.
I’d love to hear what you and your children are reading and loving right now!
