It’s February and I’m officially in the middle of my annual “winter is never going to end and I’m out of ideas for engaging my children” rough patch. Finding new, fun ways to keep us all entertained can be tricky, especially for my 3 year old when her big sister is at school and I have my own homework to get done. One fun way to help her stay active is by using our new LeapBand from LeapFrog!
In case you aren’t familiar with the LeapBand, it is “the only activity tracker made for kids that encourages active play and healthy habits with 50 fun challenges and a free Petathlon Games™ app”. Set up was a breeze: I just charged it and it was ready to use. Rowan had lots of fun picking her pet and customizing it’s colours and name (I think she’s still using a purple unicorn named Miss Belle but I’m not sure). Then when big sister came home from school, she got to play teacher and explain to Ashlyn how to create her own pet!
What does the LeapBand do? It teaches children about
- Food & Nutrition
- Gross Motor Skills
- Health & Hygiene
through games and challenges. Rowan loves the Pet Chef game (must be all those cooking shows that we watch!) and the LeapBand comes pre-loaded with 14 challenges and when you connect the LeapBand to your computer and activate the LeapFrog Connect you can add more. These are fun actions like “Jump like a frog” or “Fly like a bird” that have your kids moving as much as they can in the time that they’re given. Then they earn jewels that they can use to unlock more games and pets!
We are big fans of LeapFrog and I love much fun both of my daughters are having with our LeapBand. Watching them play, move and take turns is making the miserable weather a little more bearable. A really great feature are the school and quiet modes that parents can set in the LeapFrog Connect so that parents can decide when their kids can and can’t use their LeapBand. Leave it to LeapFrog to think of everything!
