Give your Canadian girl a Canadian doll from Maplelea Girls (#giveaway)

2014HGGButton

I can never predict which doll will become a favourite in our house. Ashlyn has had her special doll, Flower Baby, since she was 2. Flower Baby is a snuggly baby with a plastic head, which is great for playing Mommy. However, Ashlyn is starting to play in more mature ways now, acting out social situations and trying out new ways to behave, and she wants a doll that is more like her to play with: a young girl, not a baby or a grown up. I can’t wait to surprise her with a Maplelea Girls doll on Christmas Day!

Maplelea Girls Saila

Maplelea Girls are Canadian dolls for Canadian girls! Each doll has her own story and personality. I was sent Saila (pronounced “Sigh-la”), who is from Iqaluit, Nunavut. She comes with a gathered neck t-shirt, zip-up vest, sparkly jeans, traditional kamiik (boots), story journal and keepsake storage box. I’m excited to read the story journal with Ashlyn, because there are 32 pages written and illustrated by Saila that will talk about her life in the territories and her Inuit heritage. All of the Maplelea Girls come with English and French versions of their journals, but Saila is special and also comes with an Inuktitut version!

Saila has eyes that close when she lies down, and a soft, huggable body. Since Maplelea Girls dolls are sold directly from the company and are not found in stores, I had never seen one in person before Saila arrived. Pictures do not do her justice, she is breathtaking! At 46 cm (18″) tall, she is big enough to snuggle but small enough to take everywhere. I am crossing my fingers that she becomes a favourite, cherished doll in our house; even if she isn’t #1, I’m sure that she is going to see a lot of play between my two girls. And of course, the Maplelea Girls dolls are just the beginning of the collection: they also have clothes, and pets, and furniture, and kid-sized clothes and accessories….

These dolls are fabulous! I won’t enter though because my kidlet already has one she doesn’t play with, but she proudly displays it. Whoever wins will adore their Maplelea Girl!
