New (school) year resolutions

Meet The Teacher

Ashlyn in Sept 2013 after meeting her teacher

I have a confession: I don’t get the whole “New Year’s Eve” hype. January 1 doesn’t feel any different to me than December 31 did; I don’t feel motivated to make changes or that I’m starting with a clean slate. September, though? September is my New Year.

New season, new courses for me, new activities for the girls. New stationary at every turn; pens and highlighters and Post-It’s just begging to be bought at bargain prices.

This is when I make plans to work more (ok, any) exercise into my schedule, because now is when our new routine begins. This is when I reorganize closets and dressers, and in the case of last weekend, completely reorganize our house by moving furniture all around our three levels (with considerable help from my husband) to make things more functional for the life we have right now.

The girls have decided to share a room, so bunk beds were purchased and assembled and a play room was created in the now ‘extra’ bedroom. Toys were removed from the main level completely and the basement has far more space now that the Barbies and other figurines have relocated to the second-story play room. Our home feels fresh and ready for a new (school) year!

I agree with the new year as well. For me this is a time to purge as I put away summer things. Re-evaluate the uses of some things. And reorganize in order to bring fall and winter things out. And to get back on a better routine!

I agree with you about New Years; its just another day! Now that the kids are back to school in BC (finally) the fresh paper, pens etc. can come into play!

I wish I had the room to donate a room into a toy room for my grandkids! What fun that would be!

I do the same every September. Clean out rooms, organize toys, clothes, stuff to donate….update rooms for the “now”. Just wish the other folks in this house would be on board. But I run solo.
