It always feels risky to say it, but I think spring is really here in Ottawa (please don’t hurt me if it snows tomorrow). After a loooooooong winter, I could not wait to start online browsing to freshen up my warm weather wardrobe and this year sandals were at the top of my ‘must find’ list. I remembered seeing Salt Water Sandals in the blogosphere last year so I was pretty excited to find out that Salt Water Sandals Canada has arrived!
Why was I so interested in Salt Water Sandals? Well, aside from the fact that they have been an American tradition for 70 years, which is pretty impressive, they are also mean to get wet. That’s right, wear your Salt Water Sandals into the water at the beach, stomp through a puddle in them, throw them into the washing machine, they can take it! That is exactly the kind of thing I need for a busy summer of splash pads, beaches and parks.
I couldn’t resist a pair of Salt Water Sandals The Sweetheart for Ashlyn in shiny fuchsia. As soon as they arrived, she had them on her feet. When I asked her if I could take a picture of her wearing them, she posed herself like this so that everyone could see her beautiful new sandals.
I ordered Ashlyn a size bigger than the sizing chart recommended for two reasons. The first is that they didn’t have her size in stock and I loved these too much to pick a different colour, and the second is that Ashlyn’s feet haven’t grown since last summer and I didn’t want her to outgrow these when the inevitable growth spurt hits. With adjustable straps at the toes and ankles she has no problem walking in them and has found them very comfortable so far, though it hasn’t been warm enough to try them out outdoors yet.
I picked out a pair of Salt Water Sandals The Original in tan for myself, though I was quite tempted by the shiny yellow. I have a new respect for fashion bloggers because trying to take a half-decent picture of my feet proved far more difficult than I had anticipated! The Originals are a very classic looking sandal and have been very comfortable to wear around the house. I’m usually a 6.5 and Salt Water Sandals only come in full sizes so I ordered a 6 after reading that they are sized generously and that was the right choice. I can’t wait to put these to the test at the park this summer!
