We have been counting down the days until to Disney On Ice celebrates 100 Years of Magic! since I told the girls about it in December. To say that my daughters were excited to see their favourite Disney characters – Mickey, Minnie, and hopefully lots of princesses! – singing and skating would have been an incredible understatement.

Finally, on Saturday, February 22, the day had arrived and we were on our way to the Canadian Tire Centre. The first order of business for my girls? Decided on which princess dress to wear. “Rapunzel” (aka Ashlyn) and “Cinderella” (aka Rowan) were loaded into the van and off we went.

Our seats were amazing and the venue was quite full. Daddy waited in line to get some popcorn and special light-up tiaras as a treat for the girls while we got situated. Then the Disney magic began! Mickey encouraged everyone to sign along and dance if they wanted to and Ashlyn did not need to hear that twice; she was on her feet for most of the first act. I wish I could have captured the look of pure delight that was on her face but my minimal ISO/F-stop knowledge was no match for the lighting of the arena. Still, I think the few shots I managed that weren’t blurry give you a glimpse at the level of excitement both girls felt while watching Disney On Ice celebrates 100 Years of Magic!

The first act was definitely the favourite for our family. Filled with familiar and beloved characters like Aladdin and the Genie, Finding Nemo, Belle and the Beast and many other princesses, it flew by in a wonderful rush of songs, skating and interaction with the audience. By the middle of the second act, Rowan was ready to leave and Ashlyn’s attention was fading, but I think part of that was their ages (almost 3 and 4.5) combined with the length of the show (2 hours total), and the other part was that the second half featured characters and storylines that aren’t familiar to them, such as Mulan and Pinocchio, so they weren’t singing and dancing along. I thought that the skating during the Lion King segment was the best of the show!
