It should come as no surprise to my regular readers that I’m not the biggest fan of winter. It always seems to be either too cold here in Ottawa, or else everything is covered in ice. I actually preferred the cold of Northern Alberta because it’s a dry cold and you can dress for it, unlike the humid cold of Ottawa that gets in your bones (until you’re looking at -30 and colder temperatures for weeks on end in Alberta. Then I’d rather be here). I’ve always had a problem with dry skin, especially on my hands, especially in the cold winter when I’m washing them constantly in a vain attempt to ward off illness. Unfortunately, both of my daughters have inherited my mild eczema.
Ashlyn’s eczema is generally limited to her wrists and hands and seems to be aggravated by frequent washing. Rowan has had it all over since she was a baby and last year needed to use a prescription steroid cream to keep it under control. There is nothing worse than going for a weekend trip and realizing too late that you’ve forgotten to pack the usual lotions and prescriptions!
I was happy to be included in the Mom Central POLYSPORIN® Eczema EssentialsTM Campaign because any time I can find an over-the-counter solution, I’m a happy lady. I was sent three products to try out: POLYSPORIN® ECZEMA ESSENTIALS™ Daily Body Wash, POLYSPORIN® ECZEMA ESSENTIALS™ Daily Moisturizing Cream, and POLYSPORIN® ECZEMA ESSENTIALS™ Hydrocortisone Anti-Itch Cream.
We have used the Daily Body Wash in place of their regular bubbles with success. The Daily Moisturizing Cream has quickly become my go-to lotion for all of us girls. It is unscented, which does not mean that it has no scent, just that no scent has been added. It has a vague medicinal scent but I find it very mild and neither of my daughters has ever mentioned it. I notice that a little goes quite a long way and there is no greasy feeling on their skin once it has been applied. We apply it at night and their skin is still very soft and protected the next day which is great for busy mornings! I have used the Hydrocortisone Anti-Itch Cream very sparingly on Ashlyn’s wrists and I notice a dramatic improvement the morning after an application.
