GoldieBlox and the Spinning Machine (#giveaway)

Have you heard about GoldieBlox? This toy has been winning accolades for months and has been burning up my Facebook feed recently, especially now that the holidays are just around the corner and people are looking for gift ideas. Debbie Sterling is the founder and CEO and she created GoldieBlox as a way to get young girls interested in engineering. Watch the video below to see where her vision came from and why GoldieBlox is different from any building toy that you’ve ever seen!

As a mom of two young girls, who do enjoy building with construction toys, her words still rang so true to me. I was especially moved by her “any girl you know is so much more than just a princess” line because it’s so true! GoldieBlox is completely different than any construction toy that we own because it’s not just blocks; it includes a storybook, 5 animal figurines, 1 pegboard, 5 wheels, 10 axles, 5 blocks, 5 washers, 1 crank, and 1 ribbon. By reading along with the story, girls – and boys – create a complex spinning machine to move all of Goldie’s friends. It’s fun and interactive and after you’ve completed the story, you can turn the book over and on the reverse side of every page there is a different idea of a simple machine that you can build plus pages to record your own inventions.

GoldieBlox is recommended for ages 4-9 and I’m so excited to give it to my girls for Christmas this year. My husband has given it a test run and he was really impressed, and since the girls love to build with their Daddy, I’m glad that he enjoyed it too. I can’t wait to see what sorts of inventions they come up with. Maybe we’ll even have one that will be featured on the GoldieBlox Playground Inventions page!
