Most kids go through a “why?” stage. Not mine. Ask anyone who spends more than 5 minutes with my girls and they’ll tell you that their question of choice is always “what are we doing, Mommy?” – today, tomorrow, after breakfast, after lunch, over and over and over. Ashlyn started asking that when she was about 2 and she never stopped; as a special bonus she’s taught it to her little sister so now it’s a never-ending chorus.
With back-to-school in full swing, I was thrilled to review the Boho Birds Calendar Bulletin Board Set from Carson-Dellosa. It comes with 78 pieces; everything from the calendar and month headings to leaves (pre-written with things like “Happy Birthday” and “Field Trip” as well as blanks) and a separate weather wheel.
The teacher reference guide suggests laminating the calendar and that’s exactly what I did. This way, I can write directly on the calendar with dry erase markers instead of using their super-cute numbered cover-ups (that I would have had to laminate individually if I wanted to be able to write on them). I also laminated the blank leaves so that we can mark important days, such as a visit from their grandparents and the first day of school!
Ashlyn loves that she has a calendar that lets her see when important events are happening, and the weather wheel is a source of daily entertainment. It’s so cute watching them discuss if it should be ‘sunny’ or ‘hot’, ‘cloudy’ or ‘foggy’. I love that I can tell her to look at her calendar to see what day it is and that even though she can’t read, she can figure out what’s happening in her life because she remembers what is on each leaf, so I’m answering “what are we doing today, Mommy?” a lot less often!
