I’ve been a fan of wearable blankets since my oldest was forced out of her swaddle at 6 months old. Both of my girls have been gymnasts in their sleep from a very young age and I loved the idea of a blanket that they couldn’t kick off in the middle of the night so they would stay warm and cozy all night long (and hopefully sleep instead of waking up cold). Ashlyn was in a bed just after her second birthday because we needed the crib for her baby sister, but Rowan still sleeps – and naps! – beautifully in her crib so I’m in no rush to move her to a bed anytime soon….but she’s getting too big for our current wearable blankets. Enter the HALO® SleepSack® Big Kids!
I was sent a HALO® SleepSack® Big Kids to review in their new lightweight-knit fabric (they also come in Micro-fleece for winter and Comfort Mesh for the summer). What makes the HALO® SleepSack® Big Kids (as well as the HALO® SleepSack® Early Walker) different from the average wearable blanket is that they have openings for their little feet to come out! When I first heard about that feature I was a little confused about how it would work: would Rowan’s feet get cold at night? Could she figure out how to get her feet in and out of the openings?
Once our HALO® SleepSack® Big Kid arrived I was able to make sense of it all. The SleepSack® is plenty long enough for Rowan (we have a 2-3T) to pull her feet inside so they stay nice and warm while she’s sleeping, but she can easily walk around in it when it’s time to pick a story before bed!
As you can see, she loves her cupcake HALO® SleepSack® Big Kid and asks for it every day. The reverse zipper (it unzips from the bottom) is a nice touch; while she can – and does – get out of it on her own at times, not having the zipper right by her face to tempt her certainly cuts down on the number of afternoons that I find her out of her sack after naptime!
HALO SleepSacks are available for purchase on Amazon.com as well as many other retailers. You can also find Halo SleepSack on Facebook, follow @HaloSleepSack on Twitter and follow Halo SleepSack on Pinterest.
