New Year, new paint?

I heard a saying the other day that how you ring in the New Year is how your year will go.  Our New Year’s Eve was spent with our girls, attempting to watch a movie – apparently we weren’t the only people trying to stream a movie because we had to give up – and painting a feature wall in our dining room.  I’ve got the ‘freshening up the house’ bug so I think that saying may be true for us!

Now that we’ve been living in our house for 2.5 years we’re (thankfully) past most of the big-deal renos and now it’s time to change some things up!  I was really pushing for some pretty wallpaper in the dining room but my husband was having none of that.  When he suggested painting, we picked a paint colour that day and got down to work.  3 coats later and some rearranging of the china hutch contents, I’m in love with our dining room again.

Next up: curtains for the living room – which is in the same open space as the dining room.  I’m leaning towards the curtains below from Ikea since I think that the pattern is interesting but not over the top, and at $15 for the pair I don’t really think we can go wrong!

I’m also hoping to paint our powder room this weekend, and if I can convince my husband, do the girls bathroom upstairs a soft pink later on.  Do you have any home-decorating plans for 2013?

We’re hoping to get the master bedroom painted and lay new flooring, and then to get the new flooring in the basement laid… then we’ll have done every room in the whole house!

Beth, you just reminded me that we’ll be taking out the carpet in our family room this year and putting down hardwood! That’s going to be a pain, and probably not cheap, but it will be worth it :)

It definitely is nice to add color! :-)
