Givopoly lets you support local and shop online (giveaway)

I love living in Ottawa!  It’s not my hometown by birth but it’s the first city that I ever made into a home on my own and I was thrilled to move back after living for a few years on the other side of the country.  When we were in university, my then-boyfriend (now husband) and I used to love wandering around the Market and other areas of Ottawa, checking out all of the fantastic, independent stores and restaurants.  Now that we have two little girls, we don’t make it downtown nearly as often as we’d like, and a lot of those stores that we would still love to support are a lot less fun to go into when you have to worry about giant strollers in tiny aisles and grabby little hands making a mess!  Online shopping is a lot easier for me these days but not every small business has an online presence.  Givopoly is Ottawa’s online gift concierge and it’s the easiest way to support local businesses I’ve ever seen!

Givopoly is a one-stop online source that connects you with over 50 of  Ottawa’s finest locally owned and operated businesses.  You can shop by occasion (don’t forget that Valentine’s Day is rapidly approaching) or product type (I can’t resist consumable goodies!).  They’ve even added a  fantastic new “want” feature; with the click of a button, your wants are collected into a list on Facebook that you can make public, private for only you, or you can let a certain someone see it so that they get the hint!

There is also a delivery option for the Greater Ottawa area (Orleans to Kanata and Gatineau to Manotick) or you can skip that and opt to pick up your items at the store itself if that works better for you.  If you order by 3pm, your order will be delivered next day for a flat rate of $6.95 (same day delivery is available when possible for $16.95); if your order is placed after 3pm, it is generally ready for delivery 2 days later; of course, you can also opt to have something delivered further in the future which is a great idea if you have a tough time remembering important occasions!

I was given the opportunity to try Givopoly for myself and after spending quite a while looking through the many options after the girls went to bed, I decided that I’d treat my family to a nice breakfast on the weekend.  I ordered Happy Goat Coffee Company coffee beans for the adults and Morsel Desserts scone sampler for all of us to share.  In my haste, I forgot to specify when I wanted my  order to arrive and I received a very prompt and very friendly email asking when I would like my delivery.  When the doorbell rang on Saturday afternoon, you would have thought it was Santa himself for how excited my girls were!

We all enjoyed the scones – Ashlyn’s favourite was chocolate chip, and I was a fan of the white chocolate and apricot from the first bite – and the coffee is delicious.  Ordering was quick and easy once I figured out what I wanted!  I really appreciate that there is delivery on weekends, the flat shipping for your entire order, and the excellent customer service.  A tip – if you’re a first time customer, pick the ‘continue as guest’ option when you check out and at the end you’ll be prompted to set up an account so that ordering is even easier the next time.  An even better tip?  Follow @Givopoly on Twitter and Givopoly Ottawa on Facebook for ideas, special discounts and freebies!

I love Givopoly. It’s save the bacon of my Dad and of a guy friend, in addition to introducing me to a fab jewelry designer I hadn’t known about.

I’ve be eying the tasting set from Emulsifier. With the extra dough, I might pick up a box of Koko chocolates for a dear family friend.

I’ve already used Givopoly to order my Dad’s present for Mom!
