Did you know that 90 percent of pregnant women and 40 percent of adolescent girls develop stretch marks? It hardly seems fair, but I am certainly a part of that statistic. Mederma has created a line of products specifically formulated with Cepalin, a proprietary botanical extract derived from onions, to help combat both stretch marks and scars.
Lucky me, I have both stretch marks (seriously, has anyone else been pregnant and only gotten stretch marks on their upper thighs? What is that all about?) and a fairly impressive scar that’s about 1.5 inches long from a bout of mastitis I had when Ashlyn was about 7 weeks old (so that scar is 2 years old now). While I won’t say I was happy to be in a position to to review both Mederma Skin Care for Scars Gel and Mederma Stretch Marks Therapy, I was interested to see how well they would work.
For the best results, you should use Merderma Skin Care for Scars Gel 3-4 times daily for 8-12 weeks on new scars (3-6 months for old scars). I’m not going to lie – I’ve been using the gel on my scar for about a month now, but I almost never remember to put it on 3 times a day. However, even only using it twice a day I have honestly seen a difference already! The scar is fading in colour and is less raised than it was before. Considering it’s over 2 years old, I’m amazed that I can see a difference so quickly.
I’m also having success with the Mederma Stretch Marks Therapy. Some people can see results in as little as 4 weeks of using the lotion twice a day. I’m usually good about remembering to put it on in the morning and before bed and things are looking better. I’m loving the light, fresh scent of both of the products; even though they’re derived from onions you would never know it from the smell! Another huge plus is that it’s not greasy in the least, so I can apply and get dressed right away without worrying about any staining on my clothing.
While I’m not going to share any before and after shots (you can thank me for that later), I am a believer. I think that the Mederma Stretch Marks Therapy would be a great gift for a mom-to-be who is worried about how to deal with her new skin issues!
