The swing’s the thing

…and it’s making me crazy.  Ashlyn has rediscovered her love of the swings at the park and some days the ONLY thing she wants to do is sit and be pushed in the swing.  While it’s wonderful to see her sitting so happily, as far as I’m concerned it’s not a whole lot better than sitting inside watching TV.  Sit in the wagon to the park, sit in the swing and make Mommy (OK, usually it’s Daddy) do all the work.  Sweet deal, eh?

Here she is in her wagon, ready to go to one of the 3 parks that are within a 5 minute walk of our house.  Little fashionista picked out her outfit all by herself. Who am I to deny a 2 year old a pretty pink dress just because we’re going to the park? It all comes out in the wash (and she has shorts underneath to keep her safe when she hits the slide).

(Thanks to Amy from Splendid Events for the dress, it’s one of Ashlyn’s favourites!)

Mean mommy that I am, I make her get out of the swing after a few minutes and do something else.  Anything is better as far as I’m concerned, but I particularly encourage climbing and sliding and running around – the whole point of going to the park is to wear her out for bedtime (or nap time if it’s a morning visit)!  Luckily she loves digging in the sand since Special Agent Oso taught her how to build sand castles.

Some days, she’s pretty happy to do something else.  Other days there is a tantrum of epic proportions and we go home.  Am I the only mommy who thinks that park time should mean more moving than sitting?
