I’m going to be honest here – I did not enjoy it when Ashlyn started solids at 6 months old. It was confusing to figure out what she could eat at each age, she hated all jarred baby food (and I can’t blame her, have you tasted some of them?) and wasn’t a big fan of what I was making her either. Eventually she started eating “real” food but it was stressful while we figured things out.
Rowan is only 7 weeks old right now but I’m already thinking ahead to when we’ll introduce solids. This time around, I have The Best Homemade Baby Food on the Planet to help me come up with tasty, healthy, homemade baby food that won’t take me a lot of time to make! Most recipes take 10 minutes or less, which is about all the time I have these days.
This is a great resource for moms (and dads) who want to make their own baby food but aren’t sure where to start. Written by a registered dietitian and a registered nurse, there are over 200 recipes suitable for six month olds all the way up to toddlers! I love that this isn’t a book that is just for starting solids, but rather for starting healthy eating habits. Having a fairly picky toddler myself, I’m particularly looking forward to trying some of the recipes for lunch time and snacks, since I’m sure some diversity would do us both some good!
There is also a handy snowflake beside the recipes that are good to freeze (perfect for the days you want to make some extra food to keep handy for the days you don’t have time to cook!) and every recipe has a nutritional breakdown so you know exactly what good stuff your child is eating.
