Story time with Lamaze

Books are very important in our family; we have so many that we’re running out of room on our bookshelves again!  Ashlyn has been a bookworm since she was a few months old and we’re hoping that Rowan will love story time too.  The Lamaze Book Program by Learning Curve is a great way to share the benefits of reading with your little one!

We received a variety of books for different age groups.  When Ashlyn was a baby, she went through a “beaver” phase where she would chew on her board books instead of looking at them so I really wish we had known about Lamaze’s soft books then!  We have a lot of fun reading “Peek-a-Boo Forest” (6+ months).  Because it is made of fabric, the crinkly flaps are securely sewn to the book so I don’t have to worry that one of the girls will rip the flap off during story time.  Ashlyn loves to help me read the story to her baby sister and I’m sure once Rowan gets the hang of working her hands she’ll love the crinkly fabric.

Ashlyn’s favourite book is Captain Calamari’s Color Adventure (18+ months), which comes with a plush Captain Calamari.  Each of his legs are a different colour and she loves to pick out which leg corresponds with the colour featured on the page that we’re reading.  The other day she took Captain Calamari on a tour of our house and matched his leg to all sorts of random things!  It’s such a fun way to get toddlers interested in reading a story, while learning their colours at the same time.

A really unique feature of the Lamaze books is that the back cover tells you the age the book is aimed at, as well as giving play ideas that relate to the story and developmental stages for that age group.  There is also a “using the book” section that offers suggestions on how to encourage your child to learn through reading.  Lamaze Soft Books range from $12.99 to $14.99 and Board Books range from $6.99 to $9.99.
