Libre Tea – review & giveaway

I love my coffee first thing in the morning, but for the rest of the day I’m a tea girl.  Winter or summer, I love a nice mug of tea and over the last year or so I’ve slowly become a loose tea fan – my husband might say I’m obsessed.  The downside to loose tea is that if you want to make a mug for “on the go” – and with a busy toddler and a new baby, I’m pretty much always “on the go” – you usually have to make the tea first in a pot or separate glass, and then add it to your travel mug, which can take more time than I have available.

Libre Tea has created a line of tea glasses that make things easier (and prettier!) for the busy tea lover.  For review, I was sent the Libre glass ‘n poly original.  The interior is glass while the exterior is polycarbonate to make it more durable than if it was all glass.  The stainless steel top has a built in tea filter that keeps the tea leaves out of your mouth, and which gives you two different ways to brew your tea.  Once you have filled the glass ’n poly with hot water, you can choose to put the loose tea in the bottom, where it will immediately start brewing, or you can put the loose tea in the filter at the top where it will stay separate from the water until you want to start the brewing process.  Make sure the lid is screwed on tightly, then turn the glass ‘n poly upside down to make your tea!

I love that you can keep the tea separate in the lid for travel purposes.  This would have been fantastic when I was working and bringing a travel mug of tea with me; I also use it for certain teas that I find get too strong if you leave them to steep for too long.  When the tea is brewed to your liking, turn the glass ‘n poly rightside up, loosen the lid slightly to release the vacuum then unscrew the lid and you’re ready to drink.  The tea glass keeps your tea nice and hot for a very long time which is key for me since I almost never get to sit and drink a whole glass at one time!  I’m looking forward to trying out some iced tea in it as the weather warms up, since the double walled construction means that it will keep cold drinks cold just as well as it keeps hot tea hot.
