Barbie™ A Fashion Fairytale – review

One of my favourite things about having a daughter is having an excuse to play with girlie toys again!  For review, Mattel sent me a Barbie™ A Fashion Fairytale doll.

Barbie™ A Fashion Fairytale is from a movie of the same name.  “In the movie Barbie™ A Fashion Fairytale, Barbie™ stars as herself in a famous fashion-show outfit that transforms from princess gown to party couture dress. Girls can reenact all the movie magic with this gorgeous doll — just fold down the top of the gown and flip/turn the skirt around to reveal the magnifique party dress!”

I love that it’s so easy to change Barbie™ from princess to party girl.  The skirt of the dress is attached to the doll via a small belt and loop, so we won’t lose it while Ashlyn is young, but it can easily be detached as she grows so that she can dress this Barbie™ in other outfits as her imagination grows.  My daughter thought both looks were pretty, but what she really cared about were the shoes!  This is a great first  Barbie™ to start her collection with.

Some of the features of the Barbie™ A Fashion Fairytale doll include:

  • With the press of a button, her bodice lights up and synchronizes to music from the movie’s fashion show finale
  • Couture dress features sparkly bodice and layers of tulle with glittery accents
  • Both looks feature silver accents to match her lovely necklace
  • Act out favorite scenes from the movie and create new ones
  • Barbie™ A Fashion Fairytale is recommended for children aged 3 and up, due to the small parts (shoes, hair accessories).  I am putting it away for a few months because at 1.5 years old, I do think that Ashlyn is a little young for Barbie™, mostly because she is just starting to do imaginative play at this point.  I know that she’s going to love the music that Barbie™ plays and there will be lots of dancing along, so the small parts will just be tucked away somewhere safe until she’s big enough not to eat them.  I can’t wait to start the years of fun that Barbie™ brings for little girls (and their moms)!
