For a lot of mommies-to-be, myself included, as soon as you realize you’re expecting a baby, you want to “do better”. The hard part is figuring out what, exactly, you should be doing to do better. We know that it’s important to eat well and exercise, but what about everything else? Do you go organic? What should you use to clean your house? It can be completely overwhelming!
HappyBaby is a company that was founded by Shazi Visram in 2003. She is passionate about babies starting on the right foot with solid foods, keeping the food organic and as close to it’s natural state as possible while still making it easy and affordable for busy parents who may not have the time or inclination to make their own baby food.
This focus has launched a whole product line of food for babies and toddlers that is yummy and healthy (and mostly available in the United States, much to my disappointment as a Canadian mom), as well as a host of other products under the HappyFamily brand name.
For review, I was sent the HappyBaby Prenatal Yoga for Partners DVDstarring Shazi and created and instructed by her husband, Joe Kulak. I have to admit that I have not been able to convince my husband to give it a try with me yet, but it is a gentle but challenging workout full of stretches that I know will be hugely beneficial as my belly gets bigger and heavier.
Most of the moves are done in tandem, so it’s easy to do on your own even without a partner. There is also a segment on massage techniques that will be required viewing for my husband over the next 6ish months!
I have not watched the guided meditation yet, but I think it will be a great way to take a few minutes every day to relax and refocus, which is something all moms and moms-to-be could use.
HappyBaby also sent me a copy of their book, HappyBaby The Organic Guide to Baby’s First 24 Months, which is written by Dr. Robert W. Sears (who is HappyBaby’s medical advisor), Amy Marlow (registered dietitian and HappyBaby’s nutrition advisor) and the creators of HappyBaby. Aside from the common-sense advice and delicious and nutritious recipes for easy, toddler-friendly meals, the book has great tips on how to make your home and life more “green”.
I love that the authors understand that not everyone wants to jump in with both feet and throw out everything that isn’t organic and wholesome. Instead, they offer three different levels of green – “palest green” for those of us just starting out and wanting to make some changes but not sure where to start; “a little greener” for those who have already started and want to go further; and finally “the deepest shade of green” for the moms ready to go big or go home!
Breaking it down like that makes it feel much more attainable to me, and I think we’ll be more successful with realistic tips to make healthy changes for our daughter and child-to-be.
They also threw in an adorable organic t shirt (modelled by my daughter above) and an Eric Carle growth chart that is perfect for documenting just how quickly your happy baby is growing!
One lucky winner will get all of the same goodies I received: a prize pack including the HappyBaby: The Organic Guide to Baby’s First 24 Months book, organic HappyBaby t shirt, HappyBaby Presents: Prenatal Yoga for Partners DVD and Eric Carle growth chart from HappyBaby!
